In a 2014 article, Nalayeh said her family was one of the first Somali-Canadian families to arrive in Canada in 1984. She was turning seven when they arrived in Edmonton, where it was the middle of winter and –40 C.
“My parents arrived with 11 CHILDREN, and we grew up in Alberta as one of the few Somalis there for many years,” Nalayeh wrote. “My mom, however, thought people thrive better in networks, so she wanted us to relocate to Toronto, because it was better connected here and more Somalis were coming here in the 1990s. So we relocated to Toronto in 1992.”
Ahmed Hussen, Canada’s minister of immigration, refugees and citizenship, expressed his grief on Twitter. He says through her work as a journalist, Hodan highlighted the (Somali) community’s positive stories and contributions in Canada.

At the risk of sounding crass(will do it anyway), please do tell how paying for the living expenses for 11 Somalians by way of Canadian tax-payers fits into Ahmed Hussen’s conception of a positive contribution to Canadian society.
But the real injustice is found in what the Somalian half-citizen DOES NOT say. Namely, issuing a statement mourning the death of THOUSANDS of Christians murdered by militant Islamic organizations throughout the Middle East and Africa.
A BBC article informs us that Christian persecution is “near genocide levels.”
The interim report said the main impact of “genocidal acts against Christians is exodus” and that Christianity faced being “wiped out” from parts of the Middle East.
It warned the religion “is at risk of DISAPPEARING” in some parts of the world, pointing to figures which claimed Christians in Palestine represent less than 1.5% of the population, while in Iraq they had fallen from 1.5 MILLION before 2003 to less than 120,000.
“Evidence shows not only the geographic spread of anti-Christian persecution, but also its increasing severity,” the Bishop wrote.
Pray-tell, what does Ahmed Hussen have to say about this injustice? The same thing boss-man Justin Trudeau has to say– NOTHING AT ALL. How curious. Here we have one dead Somalian-Canadian resulting from an Islamic-based terror attack in Hussen’s backwater of a home nation.
He’s sad. The tears begin to flow as he realizes one of his co-religionist has been murdered. Such horror and the grief. What an injustice. Meanwhile, Christians are being murdered by the dozens EVERY DAY in African and Islamic nations. It has been going on for years. The perpetrators are also Hussen’s co-religionists, so automatically they GET A PASS.
